The New Year - Message from the Sheriff

I would like to take this opportunity to extend our best wishes for a safe and prosperous New Year from all of us at the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office. We look forward to helping make 2018 a wonderful and safe year for our county and our community.

Our office has achieved several successes this past year that I am very proud of. Some of these successes include:

In the span of 12 months, we have begun to clean up the appearance of our deputies by addressing grooming standards and dress codes. We have adjusted work schedules to increase county coverage while making scheduling easier for each deputy. Schedules before made it difficult to keep track of days off, or plan for time off in the future. The new schedule addresses both of those issues, and gives deputies the freedom to seek extra employment on their days off to supplement their incomes. The schedule also allows us to effectively put on training every month, for every deputy. We have significantly increased the amount of training our deputies go through, and we have also turned an unused room at the Sheriff’s Office into a fully functional training room/class room.

We have revised and completed an updated policy and procedure manual, which hasn’t been revised in whole for many, many years. It has been sent off to our attorneys to be reviewed, and we’re hopeful to have it implemented shortly after it’s returned to us. We’ve started a community outreach program, called Donuts with Deputies, where members of the Sheriff’s Office meet at a local restaurant somewhere in the county from 7-9am on the third Thursday of each month, to be available for the community to ask questions, bring concerns forward, or simply sit and visit.

We’ve also made a push to be present at local community events, such as Spring Fest, and Trail Fest, as well as participating in parades, and any other events to which we are invited. We have opened the Sheriff’s Office up for tours, which have been very popular, especially with groups like the Heber School District, and the Community School. The tours and community events give us a wonderful opportunity to show kids that the police are nothing to be afraid of, and help to build trust between us and our amazing community.

We have successfully cleared many cases, seized large amounts of drugs, recovered and returned stolen property, and worked very hard to start cleaning up our county. In two separate cases during the summer, we seized a half pound of methamphetamine, and then a pound of methamphetamine. Just recently, we cleared a case where we seized 22 pounds of marijuana.

As we approach the new year, my commitment to the citizens of this County remains strong, and I will continue to work with you to improve the quality of life for the current and future residents of our County. It is my hope that 2018 will be a year when members in our community frequently extend a helping hand to their neighbors, coworkers, family, friends, and strangers in need.
