The Sheriff's Office held a prescription drug take-back event on October 28th, along with many other agencies in the country.  Over 4 hours, the Sheriff's Office collected and turned in almost 300 pounds of unwanted and unused prescription drugs.  DEA's National Drug Take-Back program started in 2010, and as of last year, had collected over 8 million pounds total of unwanted and unused prescription drugs.  Over 28,000 pounds were collected in Arkansas on October 28th.  Prescription drug abuse has and will continue to be a growing problem.  It is important to take proper steps to keep prescription medication secure, and to dispose of it properly once it is no longer being used.  The Sheriff's Office has a 24 hour take-back box located in the lobby of the Jail.  Prescription medication needs to be in a container (preferably the original container), and we ask that no liquids or sharps (needles, etc.) be placed in the box.  You can also contact the DEA or a local medical provider about proper ways to dispose of unwanted or unused medications.
