Sheriff’s Office issues life-saving first aid kits to all deputies

This week, the Sheriff’s Office began issuing IFAKs (Individual First Aid Kits) to all deputies.  Each deputy will carry on them some vital, life-saving items, that can be used in the event of an emergency.  Among the items issued to each deputy was a CAT tourniquet, Quick-Clot Combat Gauze, an emergency pressure bandage (also known as an Israeli bandage), a chest seal, and a heavy wool blanket.  These kits come after a trauma care training class put on by the Sheriff’s Office in September, where deputies learned how to use each of the above items.  The Sheriff’s Office also assembled a box of medical items for deputies to practice with to become familiar and be able to use those items quickly in an emergency.  An IFAK is an invaluable tool in an emergency when seconds count, and we are excited to be able to equip our deputies with tools to help them succeed, and to help keep our community safer.
