Traffic Stop leads to seizure of 1/4 pound of Methamphetamine

07/11/2018

On Monday, July 2nd, 2018 Cleburne County Deputies conducted a traffic stop near Quitman for a traffic violation.  The Sheriff’s Office K9 was used to conduct an outer “K9 sniff” of the vehicle, in which the K9 positively alerted the presence of narcotics.  A search of the vehicle and driver yielded approximately 140 grams (about 5 ounces or a little over a quarter of a pound) of methamphetamine.  The driver, identified as Marcus Wynell Paul, 35, of Little Rock, was arrested and transported to the Cleburne County Jail.  Quitman Police were also on scene and assisted with the traffic stop.  He was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Unlawful Use of a Communication Device, and Habitual Offender.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Sheriff’s Office K9, Xinie, was purchased as a result of donations in 2017.  The Sheriff’s Office is very grateful to all who donated and supported the purchase of Xinie, as she has been extremely useful and successful in helping to fight the drug problem in Cleburne County.
