On October 15, Cleburne County Sheriff Chris Brown was appointed by Governor Asa Hutchinson to serve on the Advisory Board for the Criminal Justice Institute (CJI). Sheriff Brown was also selected in January of 2019 to serve on the board of trustees for the Arkansas Sheriffs Youth Ranch (ASYR), which is located just outside of Batesville. When asked, Sheriff Brown said he was honored to serve on these boards, and grateful for the opportunity to make a difference, not only in Cleburne County, but across the State of Arkansas as well. Sheriff Brown was sworn in for the CJI appointment on Thursday, October 31 by Justice Rhonda Wood of the Arkansas Supreme Court.

CJI is part of the University of Arkansas System, and provides education and training for law enforcement officers from all over the state, as well as hosting out of state LEOs. CJI currently offers online classes, in person classes at their campus and at host agencies, academic certificates as well as Associates Degrees, and classes that include law enforcement management, school safety, crime scene investigations, and much more.
