After publishing the press release this morning, the Sheriff's Office received multiple calls and tips.  We also received a call on behalf of Mr. Herrera, who was wanting to turn himself in.  Mr. Herrera is currently in the custody of the Sheriff's Office.  Thank you to all for your help!

On Sunday, 2/6/2022 at approximately 12:14am, Cleburne County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to a house on Chinkapin Drive South just outside of Pangburn regarding a possible hostage situation.  When Deputies arrived on scene, they made contact with the complainant, who stated that Joseph Herrera, 44 of Pangburn, was currently holding their daughter hostage inside the residence after a fight between her (the complainant) and Joseph.  Due to the serious nature of the call, the Heber Springs SWAT team was requested to respond and help set up a perimeter to contain the house.  The Sheriff's Office also requested the Arkansas State Police SWAT and Crisis Negotiation Teams to help resolve the situation peacefully.  Late Sunday morning, ASP SWAT was able to rescue the daughter, and the search for Joseph is on-going.  The Sheriff's Office has a warrant for Joseph's arrest for Terroristic Threatening, Felon in Possession of Firearm, and several other charges, and is asking the public for help in locating Joseph.  If you know where he is, please contact the Sheriff's Office CID at 501-362-8143.

The Sheriff's Office would like to say a special thank you to the Wilburn Fire Department for the use of their building, and their constant help throughout the duration of the event.  We'd also like to say thank you to the Heber Springs Police Department SWAT Team, and the Arkansas State Police SWAT Team for their response, professionalism, and their dedication to seeing situations like this end peacefully. 

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
