Woman arrested after fire-related death

12/20/2023

On November 20, 2023 around 8:58am Cleburne County Deputies responded to a camper fire on Houston Road in Tumbling Shoals.  When Deputies arrived, the camper was on fire, and a female on scene was yelling that her baby was still inside.  Attempts were made to gain access to the camper to rescue the child, but were unsuccessful.  The child's body was sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for analysis.

Cleburne County Detectives subsequently opened an investigation into the death and fire.  During the investigation, probable cause was developed, and an arrest warrant obtained.  On December 19, 2023, Diana Welch, 34, of Tumbling Shoals was arrested for one count of 1st Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Minor (a Class D Felony).  She was transported to the Cleburne County Jail on a $300,000 bond.

The investigation is still ongoing.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
