Arrest made for evidence tampering in 2022 shooting death case

01/06/2024

On September 17, 2022 around 11:01pm Cleburne County Deputies responded to a possible suicide that took place on a boat on Greers Ferry Lake.  The location of the boat was not readily known, but a little after midnight the boat and involved parties were located.  Deputies made contact with Jackie Meredith on the boat, as well as her husband, Timothy Meredith, who was deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.  Detectives began investigating the case, and had the body sent to the crime lab for an autopsy.

During the investigation, it was discovered that pieces of evidence had appeared to have been tampered with, and did not match statements made by Jackie.  After waiting for forensic reports, and conferring with the Prosecuting Attorney, a warrant was issued for Jackie, and she later turned herself in on that warrant.  She was charged with one count of Tampering with Physical Evidence, a class D Felony, and will appear in court at a later date.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
